What is Claude Sonnet 4.6?
Claude Sonnet 4.6 is a mid-tier AI model from Anthropic, released in February 2026. It sits between the lightweight Haiku and the flagship Opus in Anthropic's model lineup. Claude positions this model as the balanced option — more advanced than Haiku but less advanced than Opus. In terms of price, it's also in the middle of the pack. Despite that, Sonnet 4.6 performs almost as great as Opus 4.6 — both in benchmarks and in real-wrold tasks.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic is the company behind Claude. Many consider it the AI company to watch. Enterprise clients love Anthropic's models — and for good reason. The company creates highly reliable models that produce top-tier results. They are especially well-regarded as the best AI coding models.
Sonnet 4.6 pushes the boundaries of top-tier AI performance once again. It doesn’t set new benchmark records, but its price-to-performance ratio is outstanding. At $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, it competes directly with flagship models — which have recently become slower, more expensive, and pricier with each new iteration. This release completely reverses that trend.
Claude Sonnet 4.6 Key Upgrades
Sonnet 4.6 doubles its context window — to 1 million tokens of context — this is the same spec as Opus 4.6.
It also introduces computer use — it can navigate desktop apps, fill out forms, and interact with software interfaces on its own — very much like OpenClaw, but without third party tools.
Like all Claude models, Sonnet 4.6 is proprietary. It can’t be run locally or self-hosted. One of the easiest ways to try Sonnet 4.6 is through Overchat AI, which doesn’t require a separate Anthropic account or API key.
Anthropic’s models are known for being direct and transparent about their capabilities and limitations, and Sonnet 4.6 continues that pattern. It rarely hallucinates, will push back on incorrect information, and may even correct you — which ultimately makes for more productive sessions with the chatbot.
